Day 5 - Mt. Rushmore and Wyoming Mountains

Today we drove to the Western portion of South Dakota, and visited Mt. Rushmore. What an awesome sight! It was carved from 1927 - 1942. Each eye was about 6 feet across. We were able to see three different views, with a great portrait view of George Washington. The initial plan was to make the sculpture of the four presidents down to their waist, but the project needed to stop due to WW II. I always noticed the faces in the past, but you can see some of George Washington's jacket, and Abe Lincoln's collar.
We then got back on the road, and briefly stopped to see the Crazy Horse monument. It is about 10 miles away from Mt. Rushmore, and was begun in . It seemed that they wanted to 'beat out' Mt. Rushmore, and make an even larger sculpture. It's been going on for so long and so far only the face can be seen.

We then began a long drive, and headed through Route 14 off of the 90 in Wyoming. Well, the view was awesome, as we climbed up the 9800 foot mountain (2 miles high). We made if up the mountain fine, but when coming down, we heard a sound and started to smell something burning. We believe it is our car brakes constantly slowing down the car and camper. We stopped overnight at the Greybull KOA, about 55 miles from our original goal of Cody. We'll be getting the car looked at in the morning. More to come on this...
