Well, as we stated yesterday, Tim and Peter got up a 5:30 AM, got on the road at 6:15 and boarded to boat at 7:00 AM which crossed Jenny Lake to begin our climb up the mountain to a trail called Cascade Canyon. It was where Grand Teton and another mountain came together. Our goal was to see the bull moose known to be higher up in the mountain, about 2.5 miles up.
On our hike, we seen a red fox, a yellow bellied marmot and some smaller animals. We were well into our hike when we spotted the bull moose about 30 yards above the trail. He had a large rack on his head (see the pictures). We watched him for a bit, then hiked up the trail a bit further to see him better. He then started to walk down to the path where we were, separating us from our climb down. We were trapped where we were, but got a great view of him while he was eating breakfast about 20 yards from us. We were hiding behind a large tree, but he knew we were there. We tried to climb through the thick forest below the trail where he was, but no luck, as it was too wet. We went back up to the trail, waited a bit, and then started to look to see where he went. He crossed the trail, then went down to the stream about 20 yards from the trail. We were able to pass by, and watch him a bit more before we continued our hike back down the mountain. We were down by 10 AM. To celebrate, Peter and I bought Grand Teton shirts with a moose on it! We were back at the campsite by 11:15, where Donna already had the camper packed up to begin our travel to Salt Lake City.
When we begin our drive to the next location, Tim will open up his PC, and using Woodall's software and Microsoft Streets and Trips w/GPS, books a site in the next city. When we were heading into Utah, we seen many people on the side of the road - it was another moose, this time a female with a calf, enjoying a dip in a pond along the road.
Along the way, we watched the movie called March of the Penguins on the road using Tim's PC. After a 5 hour drive, we arrived in Salt Lake City a bit after 7 PM at PonyExpress RV Resort, a new campsite, which seems like an upscale big rig resort. Check out the pictures to see the sites!
2,800 miles so far on our trip!
It was another awesome day enjoying God's creation, seeing animals in the wild which we had never seen before! We are so blessed!!!
