Day 9 - Grand Teton National Park - Hiking Day

It was Day 9, and what a great day. We slept in a bit, and Donna made a great breakfast of scrambled eggs. Then, we headed for the Tetons. Today was our most outdoors day yet, as we hiked a lot. We began to drive a loop through the East side of the mountains, and stopped and spent much time at Jenny Lake. We took a boat ride across the lake, and hiked from there. We all began on a 1 mile hike together to see the Hidden Falls. Tim and Peter then hiked another mile up 1100 feet to a cliff called Inspiration Point (brought me back to the Happy Days memories). Peter did great climbing up the mountain.

We got back and headed South along the mountains, and made several stops. We then seen our first moose. It was a female, about 100 yards away laying down along a creek. That was as close as we could get to it, as there were rangers around making sure people kept their distance. We then got on the road again, and headed for Jackson Hole, just South of the park. It was very much of a tourist town, and had a lot of shops and restaurants. We had dinner there, and walked a bit more looking at all the shops. We then headed back to the park, hoping to see more wildlife, as we were told the elk and moose can be seen in the early morning or dusk. We walked another 1 mile trail to see if we could find a moose, but no luck. We did see a beaver dam with a beaver working diligently on it. Then headed back home to rest. A lot of hiking today! Tim and Peter are planning to get up very early to take a 7 AM boat ride across Jenny Lake for a 4 mile hike to see a large male moose in what is called Cascade Canyon. Hope it doesn't rain. More to come...
